SBS modified bitumen roofing is an evolution of traditional built-up roofing (BUR), enhanced with polymer modifiers that dramatically improve flexibility, durability, and resistance to temperature extremes. The SBS rubber polymer gives the membrane a rubber-like quality that allows it to stretch and recover without cracking.

SBS membranes are typically installed using torch application, cold adhesive, or self-adhering methods. Torch-applied systems create a strong, fully adhered bond to the substrate, while cold-applied and self-adhering options are available where open flame is not permitted.

The multi-layer construction of SBS modified bitumen systems provides excellent redundancy and waterproofing reliability. Granule-surfaced cap sheets offer UV protection and can extend the service life of the system significantly.
